THE FINISH GUIDE

Why PVD?

PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) applies a thin, hard coating in a vacuum. It adds metallic colour while preserving mirror-polished or hairline texture, with improved resistance to wear.

PVD vs PU paint

For a premium metallic look, PVD is our preferred finish. Its thin, hard coating preserves crisp details, mirror reflections and the character of hairline metal, with improved wear resistance. That makes it a compelling choice for statement furniture, partitions and decorative metalwork. PU is a liquid-applied paint or clear finish, useful when the brief calls for painted colour. If you want the distinctive depth and character of finished metal, choose PVD.

PVD vs powder coating

Powder coating uses dry polymer powder, usually applied electrostatically and heat-cured. It offers a broad choice of colours and textures for furniture and architectural metalwork. PVD is much thinner and follows the underlying metal texture. Outdoor performance depends on the specified coating system and preparation.

Will PVD scratch or rust?

PVD improves wear resistance but is not scratch-proof. Corrosion resistance depends on the base metal, preparation and complete finishing system. PVD does not make SS202 equivalent to SS316. We review the application before recommending a material and finish.

What about anti-fingerprint coating?

Anti-fingerprint coating is an optional additional treatment intended to reduce visible marks and ease cleaning. Suitability and care depend on the chosen surface and coating system. Ask us about a physical sample for your project.
